Two New Tracks for the Poolside Secret Mixter
Hey all,
The Secret Mixter is one of my favorite things about ccMixter. I go through the same emotional roller coaster every time: 1) "I probably won't do a remix this time around because I'm too busy"; 2) "how can I NOT do a Secret Mixter, that would be lame"; 3) "hmmm, can't wait to see who i get"; 4) "i can't wait to start on my mix"; 5) "i suck, why do i sign up for these things?"; 6) "i guess this has to be good enough for now"; 7) the exhilaration of upload day!
I was assigned Abstract Audio who had many amazing samples I loved exploring, affecting, reversing, chopping, stretching, shifting, slicing and pasting! What a beautiful pallet they gave me to work with......thank you. I can only hope this beginning musical painter is doing the works justice. I loved singing along, because voice is the instrument I feel most comfortable using. Here is Beloved (Tell Me)....
MC Jack in the Box always says, "No Mixter Left Behind" and I follow that admonition....and gmz was left behind so I decided to take a stab at a last minute quick mix (extremely challenging for me). It features a compelling rap by Los Angeles hip-hop-reggae artist M.i.C. Here is Freethrow!
I am now on enjoying my second listen through the entire playlist of remixes from the Secret Mixter, currently hearing Not Like You by audiotechnica as a remix of DoKashiteru with waysidedrive...it is moving.
"Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and charm and gaiety to life and to everything.” ~Plato

@Emily - yes I think so. There's a definite reciprocal element between learning, participation, sharing.
@jason - true. There's so much good things that can be said about Secret Mixter.

I'd add to the list how much I like the secret mixter because it really provides a random opportunity to get to know another mixters body of work. When I have to remix someone, I listen differently--with intent--and really focus on what their style is. Good food for the mixter soul.
Poolside mixter was a blast, mixing Onlymeith was so much fun! I learned a lot.

Your list of 7 is so accurate in description and sequence, it's just spooky! But heartening as well, knowing that I'm not the only one going through those emotions LOL
