My First Remix Ever for ccMixter Secret Mixer

I've been uploading poems and song acapellas to ccMixter since early 2006. In the last months, ccMixter has begun to inspire me more than even MP3.com did in its most dynamic days. This music community at ccMixter pushes me musically, in ways I never expected....and yesterday I uploaded my first remix, ever, called Persephone.

ccMixter conducts a Secret Mixer project each summer and on the last day of submissions, I signed up. I was quite nervous as I'm more of a songwriter than a producer and only just got Pro Tools 8 (thanks so much to Sean Halley) two months ago.  I am a total engineer newb!  I became even more nervous when I received my assignment, Vidian! Vidian has beautifully remixed my songs several times, and just won the "People Let's Stop The War" remix contest by Brad Stanfield.  No pressure!

Yesterday, I spent nearly the entire day listening to more than 50 remixes submitted for the Secret Mixer project. At the risk of sounding like a girl (which I am!), my eyes welled up several times on my audible journey. I believe the power of collective creation is just beginning to be discovered, and I am honored to experience it with this incredibly talented, personable, cooperative community of artists.  I am awed and humbled.

To top it off, I learned yesterday that my Secret Mixer was fourstones, the guy who basically runs ccMixter. I was so psyched he drew my name! His remix "Cactus Swell" includes my acapellas "Desert Song" and "Pool of Love" paired with his vast landscape of creative sounds. Amazing!

Thank you all for taking me on this evoluationary journey. This next step has just begun. Namaste....
