Wolf Sebastian

Wolf Sebastian is a phenomenal cellist with a style and rhythm that transcends words. In addition to playing for the LA Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, Sebastian's cello work has been featured in an array of films, including Blades of Glory, Transformers, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, and Inside Man. Wolf's cello work is also featured on Natasha Bedingfield's Pocketful of Sunshine release. Wolf is one of the Select Artists of ArtisTech Media, whose work will be featured on new album releases this summer.

Cellist Wolf Sebastian was born in Berlin, Germany, as the son of two professional musicians. Twice a prizewinner of the German Young Artist Competitions, he gave his solo debut at Berlin’s Philharmonic Hall at the age of seventeen. Two years later he joined the master class of Janos Starker at Indiana University. At the end of his studies Mr. Sebastian was awarded the coveted Performer Certificate. He has been the recipient of the Hammer/Rostropovich award from the University of Southern California and in 1993 completed the Doctor of Musical Arts degree under the guidance of Eleonore Schoenfeld.

Mr. Sebastian has been active in many facets of professional musical life: Prior to moving to Los Angeles in 1986 he taught at two colleges in Florida and Kansas. He was principal cellist of the Mainz Opera in Germany and associate principal cellist of the Berlin Radio Orchestra. From 1984 until 1990 he was a member of the Santa Fe Opera.

Since moving to Los Angeles Wolf Sebastian has been principal cellist with the LA Master Chorale and cellist with LA Opera, a member of the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra and the Mainly Mozart Festival Orchestra in San Diego. He has toured the United States as a member of the Viklarbo Chamber Ensemble and has recorded new works for Celestial Harmonies and Raptoria Cam labels.

Very active as a recording musician Mr. Sebastian has participated in over seven hundred film scores. He has performed live on television at the American Music Awards, the Grammy Awards and the Emmy Awards. Among the artists he has collaborated with are Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis jr., Linda Ronstadt, Madonna, Rod Stewart, Liza Minelli, Jimmy Page and Robert Plant, Michael Buble, Beck, Josh Groban, Tenacious D, John Tesh, The Wallflowers, Harry Connick jr., Garth Brooks, Christina Aguilera, Whitney Houston, and Celine Dion.
 
He has taught at the University of Southern California, Pepperdine and Loyola Marymount Universities in Los Angeles, CA. His solo and chamber music recordings are available on Sony Classical, Celestial Harmonies, Raptoria Cam, Efficaci Records and RCM.
