I wrote this in 1986, but didn't keep the lyric sheet. So when I went to re-record it last year, I had to write new verses for the parts I didn't remember.
The song comes from a line of Wordsworth's "Intimations of Immortality." Where he wrote about the newly arrived baby filled with an innocence that reflects Heaven, I wrote this from the cynical world inhabited by adults, particular those adults who like starting wars for the weakest of reasons - and whose attention spans drift away from the chaos they create at the first distraction that passes by.
